Well, it's a good phone but what we are forgetting is the ‘I’. The iPhone is all right, but the ‘I’ is the most important thing, iPhone is just a little gadget produced by this, larger gadget - this is the gadget, isn't it? All the other gadgets have been produced by this gadget. (Pointing to himself) If you pay little attention to this one, if the necessary understanding and awareness and ability to transform this gadget happens within you, your ability to live will be greatly, greatly enhanced. Then outside technologies are not a barrier, outside technologies are a boon that’s been offered to us. But the boons that have been offered to us are turning into curses in people’s lives simply because they have not taken care of this one; they’re only trying to take care of the external situation. So we have done lot of engineering in the world outside and because of this we have a huge level of comfort and convenience in the world today. The kind of comfort and convenience that no other generation of people could have ever imagined, that level of comfort and convenience we have. Though we have this, though we are the most comfortable generation ever on the planet, we cannot claim that we are the most peaceful generation, we cannot claim we are the most joyful or loving generation on the planet for sure. So in many ways, this generation is becoming the most neurotic generation or most complaining generation because we have taken care of the outside but we have not taken care of the inside. The world is engineered the way we want it, but are we engineered the way we want ourselves to be? So, there is a certain way to engineer our system, to make this body, to make this mind, to very chemistry within us, the way we want it. If our wish is to be blissful… to make the world blissful (Laughs), it would take too many things but to make this one person blissful, a willing person, somebody who wants to be blissful, it shouldn’t be difficult at all. But this is not been done because people have never paid attention to the mechanics of how a human being functions and to engineer that the way we want it. So these are technologies for inner well-being Everybody wants health, peace, blissfulness, but these are simple things. Why these things are not happening is, we have never paid attention to the inner mechanism of what a human being is. To pay attention to that and to create it the way we want it, this is ‘Inner Engineering’. We will teach a certain process which is known as the ‘Shambhavi Mahamudra’. This is a way of activating your energies in such a way that the very fundamental chemistry in your body will alter itself within a matter of two to three weeks. One can even measure this in the laboratories - such experiments have been done how the blood chemistry changes within three weeks of practice has been recorded and you can make your chemistry a chemistry of blissfulness. Welcome to Open Your Reality. Many of you have been asking me to make a video about Mahavatar Baba-ji. So who is Mahavatar Baba-ji and why is he so important? First, he is one of the ascended masters and arguably the highest level spiritual figure that has ever graced the earth. He is the teacher of teachers. His most famous disciple was Jesus and he constantly works to bring peace and love to the world. Baba-ji taught many spiritual adepts through the centuries, the most famous being Parahamansa Yogananda, who wrote Autobiography of a Yogi, easily one of the greatest pieces of spiritual literature ever composed in my humble opinion. Few other spiritual figures compare to Baba-ji in terms of his power and his impact on the world from behind the scenes. The term, Baba-ji, is actually a broad Indian word which means revered father. For those interested in yogis and spirituality, you’ve probably come across the name Mahavatar Baba-ji at one time or another. Many who watch this video have not heard of the great sage, or no little about him. Either way, I made this video to be the definitive short biography of the life and work of Mahavatar Baba-ji. Of all the spiritual figures that exist, I most strongly identify with Baba-ji. And in my heart, I believe he can hear me when I pray or speak to him. I first learned of the great master from reading Autobiography of a Yogi over two decades ago. The information in this video comes from that book and others written about Baba-ji, so let’s begin. The legend of Mahavatar Baba-ji dates back to 203 BC. He was said to have been born on November 30 in a small eastern coastal village in the far south of India. His birth name was Nagarajan, which literally means “king of serpents”. His father was the priest of a village temple. And Nagarajan adored his mother, whose love for her was unconditional. These details of Baba-ji’s early formative years were revealed to Marshal Govindan, who was initiated into kriya yoga in 1970 and dedicated his life to it, becoming president of Baba-ji’s kriya yoga operations and initiating over 10,000 people in its teachings. If you didn’t know, Kriya yoga is a powerful branch of yoga that was passed down from Baba-ji to his disciples, forming a lineage that continues today. Govinda wrote a very informative book on Baba-ji in 1991, titled Baba-ji and the 18 Siddha Kriya Yoga Tradition. According to Govinda, Baba-ji personally told him of the details of his early life in India in 203 BC. This includes Nagaraj being kidnapped and sold as a slave when he was just 5 years old. The details of Babaji's life were beautifully penned in Autobiography of a Yogi. In 1861 Lahiri Mahasaya, working as an accountant for the British government, was walking in the hills of desolate area when he heard a voice calling his name. Following the voice up the mountain, he met a tall and divinely radiant sadhu. Lahiri was amazed the sadhu knew his name. That sadhu was none other than Mahavatar Baba-ji. At this point, Baba-ji would have been over 2,000 years old but looked a youth of no more than 25 years. How could that be? It’s more than likely the spirit of Baba-ji took on this body, incarnating into the flesh to communicate with Lahiri. For example, Monastic practices that help you to separate yourself from your thinking and increase your level of awareness. They are what many Buddhist traditions use and can commonly be called mindfulness meditations. These meditation styles include observing the breath or thoughts. There are other approaches which focus your attention by concentrating on a thought or an object, such as mantra meditations. Modern meditations use this type to include visualization meditations and thought-provoking meditations, such as Law of Attraction Meditations. The idea ultimately is that whether you are focusing on something or nothing at all, there is a point in there where all forms of thought stop altogether. You feel a presence and spaciousness that is beyond your normal functioning and processing. A gap in the stream of your thinking appears and opens you to something that is profound and a full expression of the Now, without time and space. All practices of meditation are great and all have potential to give you wonderful results. Some are suited to different people based on their current lifestyle or cognitive and behavioral habits, but in effect, ALL styles are going to give you good results and wonderful feelings of connection and increased life skill if practiced regularly. All meditation is progressive, so if you do it once you may feel some benefits, but the key is to make it a part of your daily habit, like brushing your teeth. That is where the tremendous benefit will be felt, affecting many areas of your life regardless of which style you choose. What Tony Robbins Does Every Morning
For years, Tony Robbins has been starting his mornings with a 10-minute ritual that gives him a boost of energy and prepares him for the day. On a recent trip to Robbins' Fiji resort Namale, where he was hosting the winners of Shopify's Build a Bigger Business competition, he showed Business Insider how to perform what he calls "priming." Robbins, 57, is the world's most famous life and business coach and is as busy as ever, averaging 60 events each year. He developed priming as a way to maintain his energy and focus. The routine, which involves a forceful breathing exercise and visualization of light pouring through your head, can seem pretty wild, but it's a slightly adapted version of a yoga technique called Kapalabhati Pranayama breathing and Buddhist mindfulness meditation. Following is a transcript of the video. Tony Robbins: My very first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is — I want to get my head right. I do this thing called "priming." Now, some people get up in the morning and they meditate, and I think meditation is wonderful. But I haven't met many people that can not think thoughts. This is a different outcome. This is about priming yourself. It's about putting yourself in a state where your mind and body will respond accordingly. We'll do three steps. It's really simple — over 10 minutes. So why don't you sit down and I'll guide you through it. So, just get really comfortable. You want to be sitting up. Is that back enough for you to be able to relax? Richard Feloni: Yeah. Robbins: OK, cool. And then the first thing you're gonna do is your hands are gonna come up as you take the breath in and then you're gonna explode out the nose down. Good. Now, relax. Keep your eyes closed. Have your hands open, if you would, on your lap face-up like that. Just feel whatever you feel. Just take it in. And you don't even have to respond to me anymore. You just enjoy it and take it in. And now just let your body relax deeply. And I'd like you to begin to think of a moment in your life that you could feel really grateful for if you wanted to. It could be something little, Rich, or it could be something big. It doesn't matter. It could be from your childhood or this week. It doesn't matter. Do your best to remember it and then step into it as if you were there, kind of like stepping into your body and seeing what you saw then through your own eyes. Hearing what you heard then. Feeling what you felt then. Savor it. Maximize that sense of appreciation or enjoyment or gratitude. Enjoy it. Feel it. Fill up with it. And now we're gonna shift to the last piece. Really simple. All you're gonna do is focus on three things, one at a time, that you want to accomplish. Three things you want to achieve. Live it and feel it and experience it. How was that? Feloni: It was good! Robbins: Yeah? What'd you feel? Feloni: It feels calming. Refreshing. It was good to like, escape inside myself. Robbins: There's two worlds to master – the external world and the internal world. They both have to be mastered, but if you master the external world, you know, a la, you know, Robin Williams, but you don't master the internal world, there's a big price. This is the one to master first. And so I start my day by making that – so I have this base to deal with. I'm gonna live from gratitude today. I'm gonna live from blessing – you know, I'm gonna be a blessing in people's lives today. I'm gonna get stronger today. And I'm gonna achieve what I'm here and committed to do. Pamela Peeke, M.D. - Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland - spoke about her experience learning about Transcendental Meditation. Dr. Pamela Peeke: "It's a great honor to be here. I want to thank Bob Roth and the David Lynch Foundation for their extraordinary work to say the least. But most importantly it's a miracle. Because I can meditate. Now, I am a type AAAAAAA personality. I make Soledad look hypothyroid. I'm the best thing that ever happened to TM because if I can do it, anybody can do it. That became the joke back in Washington DC when my wonderful colleague Dr. Norman Rosenthal - a fellow scientist at the National Institutes of Health - and I had gotten together about three years ago and he told me he was writing another book and I said, "Gee another one on Seasonal Affective Disorder? Rock on, sounds really cool." And he said, "No, this is different it's called 'Transcendence.'" I said, "You've lost your mind. What are you doing?" and he said, "You have to try Transcendental Meditation," I said, "Really? I have to schedule breathing right now... stay still?" So I thought that was it until about a year and some change ago when Norm circled back with the galley of his book. And as authors we usually exchange quotes, so he said, "Read the galley and give me a really juicey quote," and I said, "Alright." And then I cursed him because I couldn't put the galley down it was that good. Why? I'm a scientist. I'm a physician and a scientist, I've dedicated my life to good science and this was just wall to wall the most profound science finally showing that there is a very strong connection between what happens in Transcendental Meditation specifically and a number of disorders that we all know from depression to PTSD and ADD... it just goes on and on...."
